World Mental Health Day: Breaking the Silence and Our Why

Today, as we recognize World Mental Health Day, it’s important to remember that mental health matters — for everyone, everywhere. Mental health isn’t just a personal issue; it’s a global one. The World Health Organization reports that nearly 1 in 8 people around the world live with some form of mental health condition. Yet, despite this staggering number, the stigma surrounding mental illness still persists, leaving many to feel isolated, ashamed, and misunderstood.

I’ve experienced this firsthand. My own journey with mental illness has been both challenging and transformative. There were times when it felt easier to wear a mask and to hide what I was going through rather than face it head-on. But over time, I’ve learned that talking about mental health — whether through personal conversations or public platforms like this — is a crucial part of healing. I now understand that vulnerability is not a weakness; it’s a strength.

I started advocating for mental health awareness in college. I traveled to schools and spoke to teachers and staff about ways to protect mental health and to detect warning signs in their students. I also focused my teaching practice on the whole child; development in social and emotional realms as well as academic. All of this was new to the teachers, staff, and professors I worked with, but I kept pursuing my passions. I knew that mental well-being for our students needed to be a priority.

It was this journey with mental health that inspired me to create Prep and Reflect LLC. Planning and journaling became key tools I used to navigate my emotions and thoughts throughout the years. Writing allowed me to reflect, to make sense of the chaos inside my head, and to find moments of peace during the most overwhelming times. I wanted to share these tools with others, creating products that encourage reflection, self-care, and intentional living.

On this World Mental Health Day, I want to take the opportunity to remind anyone reading this that you are not alone. Mental health struggles can make you feel isolated, but there’s always support out there. Whether it’s through loved ones, mental health professionals, or even journaling and self-reflection, there are ways to seek help and healing.

At Prep and Reflect, our mission has always been to provide tools that help you slow down and reflect on your life. Our products are designed with this in mind, making it easier for you to take those much-needed moments of self-care. If journaling or writing is something you’ve never tried before, I encourage you to give it a go. Sometimes, putting pen to paper can open doors to emotions and thoughts you didn’t even realize you had.

Let’s keep the conversation going. Mental health should never be a topic we shy away from. By continuing to talk about it, share our experiences, and support one another, we can help break the stigma and build a more compassionate world.

If you’re struggling, please remember: You’re not alone, and it’s okay to ask for help. Reaching out is a brave and important first step.

Together, we can advocate for accessible mental health care for all. 🌿
