Every year on the eve of her children’s birthdays, Erin and her husband Josh sit down to write a letter to them. They list the challenges and triumphs, the joys and hardships, and every major event that transpired that year. However, it would just go into a Google Doc, and that would be the end of that!
Erin wanted to create a treasured gift that would last lifetimes; she didn’t just want to hand her children each a stack of folded papers on their 18th birthdays. So, she created this journal: Compose & Recapture - Letters to Your Child.
In this journal, Erin wanted to create a gift parents could give to their children that would capture all five love languages.
- Gift Giving: The physical journal itself is a gift.
- Words of Affirmation: The letters written to your child are full of this love language, from sharing memories and how your children have grown, to trials you have overcome as a family.
- Acts of Service: Physically writing the letters takes time and effort.
- Quality Time: When you give this book to your children, you can spend the time together going through each year and reminiscing.
- Physical Touch: Giving this book to your children and reading through the letters, you can be physical with them (holding hands, hugging, etc.)
This journal is not just a gift to your children; it’s also a gift to you. It’s a celebration of each year of your children’s lives, and of your parenting and your relationship. For Erin and Josh, it’s a joy reminiscing together over the highs and lows, the challenges and triumphs of each year, all in this heirloom that can be passed down for generations.
Erin loves this tradition so much that she wanted to share it with others. And so, Compose & Recapture was created!
